      D3S Stands for "Discharge Second eneration Shielded". Bulbs are specifically designed for projector headlamps. Low beam projection headlamps contain a shield positioned between the lens and reflector to provide the sharp low beam cut off. A high beam does not have a shield. Lamps desinated "Bi-Xenon" have a shield which retracts on High Beam.

      D3S differs from D1S in that it contains no Mercuy. Mercury is a heavy metal and is a problem in landfills.
