9011/HIR1/9005 65W Vosla Halogen Infrared Bulb
- 3000 Lumens
- Design life 1400 Hours
- Light Color 3450 Deg. K
General Electric patented this new technology in 2000. Their goal was to create a bulb that produces as many lumens as an HID capsule, at a fraction of the cost. They got about 75% of the way there. The technology was licensed to Toshiba for automotive use.
The technology involves a quartz globe which has multiple layers of semi-reflective materials deposited on the inside surface of the bulb. The coating reflects a portion of the Infra red energy emitted by the filament back to the filament causing it to glow hotter and produce more light, which escapes through the uncoated portion of the globe. Even though the filament runs hotter, the bulb produces about the same amount of heat as a stock bulb.
Interestingly enough, the 9011 bulb can be used in a 9005 lamp with a simple modification with a Dremel tool or file. Due to federal regulations, we can not make this modification, but you, the end user, can. The material to remove is marked on each bulb.
Toshiba has discontinued the manufacture of this bulb and sold the technology to Phillips. Now Philips has sold the HIR technology to Vosla and we are offering the full line of Vosla and Osram bulbs.
Who is Vosla?
Vosla is a well respected manufacturer of high quality bulbs. Salvaged by Philips from the rubble of East Germany after the reunification, Vosla became Philips specialty division. charged with the manufacture of OE as well as High Performance and private label bulbs. In 2012 Philips moved their manufacturing from Germany to Poland and spun off the Vosla and Narva brands as an independent company operating out of the Plauen plant in Germany
STOCKS OF THE PHILIPS BULBS ARE NOW DEPLETED. ONLY THE OSRAM VERSION IS AVAILABLE
