TerraPhone Fitting and Operation

Headset Speakers - Carefully fit so that the speaker is exactly opposite the ear.   The Velcro® usually adheres to the helmet lining.   If not, sew or glue the loop Velcro® to the helmet lining.   I prefer my speakers behind the lining of my helmet as it is more comfortable on my ears and they tend to better stay in place.   Experiment to see which you prefer.

Headset Microphone - Full Face- Fix the microphone using the already fastened to the microphone MUST be no more than 10mm from your lips.

Headset Microphone - Open Face - Shape the microphone arm base to the shape of the helmet taking care to ensure that there is no gap between the microphone arm base and the helmet.   Wipe the microphone arm base with a damp cloth to remove any dust.   Also, clean the area of the helmet where the microphone is to mount.   Fasten the microphone arm base in postion on the helmet usuing the double sided adhesive pad provided.   The microphone MUST be no more than 10mm from your lips.   The driver and co-driver headsets both have the microphone toward the center of the vehicle for convenience in connecting to the intercom.

All Headsets - IMPORTANT - The white clip should be fastened to the side of the helmet to serve as a strain relief for the headset cables.   If it is no used, premature failure of the headset is a certainty.   Also insure that you always UNPLUG the headset from the intercom before exiting the vehicle.   Failure to do so will result in premature failure of the headset.

Amplifier - Connect the red wire to a source of +12 volts and connect the black wire to the negative battery terminal.   To minimize groud or power loop static from noise sources in the car, route the power cable well away from any other wires and connect directly to the positive battery terminal.   Fuse the positive lead directly after the battery.

Radio Input Socket - The input socket on the back of the Club amplifier can be connected via a 3.5mm phono jack to the loud speaker output of your VHF/UHF/Business Band/CB.   On the Professional model, the radio loudspeaker can be connected via the 7 pin DIN plug using the optional Pro Radio Control's wiring harness.   With the intercom volume set for normaloperaton, adjust the radio volume to give the desired volume on the headsets.   On the Professional model, the radio input can be switched on/off using the switch marked RADIO

Audio Output (Professional Model Only) - The 3.5mm socket on the rear of the unit is provided as an audio input to video camera or tape recorder.   The voices of both crew members will be recorded.   If a radio is connected using the Radio Controls harness, the radio conversation will be recorded as well.

2 way Radio Interface (Professional Model Only) - It is recommended that a competent Radio Engineer perform this installation.   Included with the Pro Radio Controls Harness is a push button and cable to be connected to the pins on the radio which are normally connected to the Push-to-Talk switch on the radio microphone unit.   The wire marked "Microphone" is connected to the pins normally connected to the microphone of the radio.   The wire marked "Loudspeaker" is connected to the loudspeaker output socket of the radio.   When all connections have been checked and polarities verified, plug the 7 pin DIN connector into the socket on the Pro Amplifier.   Press th PTT button to transmit to another radio and adjust the small potentiometer (labeled "MIC ADJUST") on the rear of the amplifier until the best sound reporduction is obtained.
