A Six Point harness is one that is attached to the vehicle at six places (points) - one on each side of the seat for the lap belt, one for each shoulder harness and two for the anti-submarine belt.
A Five Point harness is attached at only five places - one on each side of the seat for the lap belt, one for each shoulder harness and one for the anti-submarine belt.
A Four Point harness is attached at only four places - one on each side of the seat for the lap belt, one for each shoulder harness and has no anti-submarine belt.
Lap belts come in two styles, Pull-Down or Pull-Up. Pull-Down is the most common and refers to the manner in which the belt is tightened - you pull down on each side from the latch. A Pull-Up harness is tightened by pulling up from the attachment point. This leaves the excess strap hanging on the floor - which is why the Pull-Down is most common. Pull-Up is used primarily where space is restricted, such as a formula car or other single-seat race car.
