SFI 45.1 Spec Approved |
FIA 8857 2001 Type A |
| SCCA, NASCAR, Rally America, NASA and many other sanctioning bodies now require certified roll bar padding on any member of the cage that may come in contact with the helmet. They recommend its use on any bar where the participant's body may have contact. The split foam "Pipe Insulation" we have used for years is being discouraged and even outlawed by many organizers because of its low energy absorption properties, ability to support a flame and tenancy to deteriorate over time and give off noxious fumes when burning. BSCI Roll bar padding is not just roll bar padding. Tests have proven that roll bar padding plays a vital role in decreasing the potential of serious injury in crashes.
A unique capability of the pad is its ability to wrap and twist around the bars in the roll cage without breaking and cracking. Its application eliminates the need for sizing and cutting the padding so as to avoid breakage on turns and bends in the roll bar. Each piece covers 180 degrees of the bar and is attached using molded-in acrylic adhesive. There are several different types of padding depending on application. FIA 8857-2001 Type A Homologated padding is intended for use where the helmet may strike the roll cage and provides the highest degree of protection. It is available in two profiles 155-60-1 and 155-60-11 depending on bar size. SFI 45.1 padding may also be used in areas where the helmet may strike the roll cage, if allowed by the sanctioning body. It is the same material, but a smaller profile and has about one third the energy absorption of the FIA padding. 45.1 padding is available in two profiles, 48000 and 68000. The soon to be available SFI 45.2 padding is softer than 45.1 and is recommended by NASCAR in various flat forms for areas of the race car that soft tissue may contact. BSCI offers the same compound in a roll cage padding shape. Due to is higher flexibility, one size fits all diameters of roll cage, and is available only in 78000 profile. This material is NOT FOR USE where the helmet may strike the roll cage. A still softer material is available for those who feel the other materials are too hard. It has been used by the military for headrests, on the roll cage of off road vehicles and anywhere where some extra padding is needed. This material is available only in 78000 profile. A Dual Durometer version, newly introduced, offers the best of all these types. This item has a core of SFI 45.1 enrobed by soft material and is only available in 155-60-11 profile. Due
to the size of Roll Cage Padding, additional shipping charges
may apply. |
